Attitude of Gratitude

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” —Oprah Winfrey

We do not appreciate what we have.

We do a fantastic job of taking things for granted.

Consider this . . .

When was the last time:

  • You were thankful for your awesome group of friends?
  • You were grateful you could walk?
  • You were happy you could see?
  • You smiled because your children were healthy?
  • You stopped and marveled at the sunset?
  • You were thankful for the food you have to eat?
  • You appreciated living in a free society?

Gratitude is in short supply.

It’s time for a change.  It’s time to be GRATEFUL.

“Gratitude”  will be one of my 3 words for 2015.

It is time to start focusing on GRATITUDE.

One of the life’s little secrets is what you focus on multiplies.

  • Focus on problems?  You get more problems.
  • Focus on opportunities?  You get more opportunities.
  • Focus on gratitude? You get more things to be grateful for.

Brené Brown wrote, “What separates privilege from entitlement is gratitude.”

Privilege is a gift.  Entitlement is an attitude.

Gratitude is the bridge between the two.

You are bombarded 24/7/365 with messages of:

  • what you lack.
  • what you need.
  • what is missing from your life.

It’s time to push back.

Gratitude is not an automatic response.  Gratitude is a habit that must be developed.

3 Ways to Develop an Attitude of Gratitude:

1) Gratitude Notebook

  • Write down 3 things each day that make you grateful.
  • Don’t take anything for granted.
  • Everything is in play:  Your friends, your health, today’s sunset.
  • In 1 year you will have 1,095 reasons to be grateful.  Wow!

2) Give Specific “Thank you’s!”

  • Thank your wife for that fantastic dinner.
  • Thank your co-worker for their awesome work that made you look good.
  • Thank your child’s coach for staying late to help them refine their batting stance.

3) Praise People in Public

  • Complements are gold.
  • Complementing people in front of others is nuclear.
  • Try it.  You will be amazed at the results.

Develop an attitude of gratitude.

You will be amazed how gratitude transforms the AVERAGE into the REMARKABLE.
