“Running water never grows stale. You just have to “keep flowing”. – Bruce Lee
This week I learned a valuable lesson.
Flowing water does not freeze.
We lost our water for the better part of 3 days.
A pipe hidden behind a basement wall froze 2 different times.
It killed our water supply.
Fun times.
It’s surreal when a modern convenience is taken away.
It felt like we were camping in the 1790’s, but with lights, heat and Wi-Fi.
The first time the pipe froze we cursed nature.
The second time it froze everyone cursed me. Yikes!
After the first freeze thawed, my wife mentions to me, “Should we leave a faucet running? Flowing water won’t freeze.”
Note to self: When your wife makes a suggestion on something you have no clue about – take the advice. (Being overly optimistic sometimes gets you in trouble.)
Enter FROZEN pipe round 2. Help…
Fast forward 2 days.
Thanks to a break in the weather and a HUGE favor from a friend who actually knows what the hell he is doing:
Our water is back.
This FROZEN experience taught me 3 Life Lessons:
1) Be GRATEFUL for the little things. When they are gone, you soon realize they were the BIG things.
2) The VALUE of friends who care enough to help is GOLD.
3) When our lives (and water) FLOW FORWARD, good things happen.
Bring on the spring…
Taking life’s necessities for granted is AVERAGE.
Being grateful for the simple things is REMARKABLE.
